The Cool of the Day
Ge. 3:8 "And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day..."
The Father loves His children. I like this, "and they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden." In other words, this wasn't something that just happened once, it happened so often that they knew the sound of His footsteps. Either that or His very presence radiated audio. For all practical purposes let's stick with the footsteps.
Regardless, the Father had a relationship with Adam and Eve, and who knows how long this went on before the temptation. We all know the story. Man fell, Christ came and made provision to restore that relationship and so here we are. Some of us have taken advantage of that relationship and some of us have not.
The one central focus of God's Word is not sin, but relationship. So many of us focus on our sin, and we think because there is sin in the heart of life we can't have a proper relationship with Christ. That could not be further from the truth.
I love the Levitical priesthood. Yes, it's long and tedious, but it is a breakdown of why Jesus died and what his sacrifice represented. Did you know that there was a sacrifice for ignorance? That's right. The priest made a sacrifice for the ignorant mistakes that the people made. If I, unwillingly made a bad decision, there is a sacrifice to cover that. In other words, there's an app for that.
So a sacrifice was made to restore our relationship with God almighty. Then Jesus became that sacrifice, as our High Priest, once and for all. No longer will we have to go through process of sacrificing animals. It's done, over with. All we have to do is accept that sacrifice, and simply learn to walk with the Lord God.
What I am trying to get to here is: He wants to walk with YOU! He desires to be with YOU! He doesn't want to beat you upside the head with the mistake you made earlier in the day. I'll never forget this. Something happened and I was not a happy camper. Whatever it was, I do not remember. Never the less I just need to get away from where I was, clear my mind, and possibly have a pity party. I was not feeling so "Christ like", let's put it that way. So I got in my car, drove to one of my favorite spots on the other side of town to just be alone. When I got there and started walking, the Holy Spirit showed up. I know His sweet presence anywhere. So I asked, "What are you doing here?" In other words, I have done a bad thing, why are you showing up?
He didn't care, He is the comforter. He just wanted to be there for me. How awesome is that? I'll admit it. Over the years our relationship has grown, as it should with anyone. It has grown to the point where it takes very little effort to get into His presence. Most of the time it's just an adjustment of the heart and there we are, Keith and God. If I want to call my mother or wife to chat, all I have to do is pick up the phone, and they are always there to chat. It is so much easier with God, no dialing, no busy signals, and no voice mail.
One last story; about a year ago, my family and I were so looking forward to moving and getting a new start at a church in another state. Well, it didn't work out for us and we were all a little disappointed. I was working on cleaning the garage in the after math and to be honest my heart was broken a bit. This journey had been long and we thought we were at the end. While sitting in my garage, I simply prayed, "Lord, I just want you to come and sit. I do not want to talk about anything. I do want pray about anything. All I want is for you come and sit down with me." Habakkuk 3:3 says. "God came."And came He did. He sat down in the garage. That was all He did.
You are greatly loved, no matter who or where you are in life.
